Celebrating International Women’s Day In Austin
Our board thinks every day should be International Women’s Day. After all, women are fifty percent of the population of our planet. Childbirth gives females the unique gift of ensuring that the human population regenerates. Thriving international countries recognize the strength of their female citizens. Countries with limited economic resources find their women struggling with the burdens of never having enough: enough food, clean water, adequate shelter or proper education for their children.
Women all over the world are tasked with two jobs: raising the next generation of children and bringing in a viable income to support the family. Without the proper tools to do so, not only do her children suffer but the next generation is destined to do the same. Nonprofit organizations like ours who are working to provide the essential tools needed to create a strong family have little time or resources to promote our work or showcase the participants in our program. Toward that effort, we are blessed to have two “women warriors” at our side in Austin, Texas.
Austin Women Working together to Equip Widows to Succeed Worldwide
In honor of International Women’s Day 2019, two of Austin’s most successful women are combining their creative talents to help women who are facing hardships in developing countries. Master photographer, Gray Hawn, and restaurateur, Jennifer McNevin of Manuel’s Restaurant, are raising funds for the Finding Freedom through Friendship organization which helps single mothers and widows in Guatemala and Egypt. Jennifer McNevin states, “Millions of mothers spend every waking moment struggling to overcome the most difficult of circumstances just to care for and feed their children and themselves. Our mutual fundraising efforts make it possible for these women not only to survive but to thrive by helping to build homes, provide healthy, nutritional food, clean water and educational opportunities.”
“As we celebrate International Women’s Day, I’m honored an exhibit of my work entitled, Romancing Light will raise funds for women in the Middle East and in Central America who would otherwise suffer in silence and isolation,“ says Gray Hawn. Hawn is donating 25% of the proceeds from her exhibit to the Finding Freedom Through Friendship organization.
Jennifer McNevin and Gray Hawn invite you to Celebrate International Women’s Day on Friday, March 8, 2019. On this special day, the Congress Avenue restaurant is offering one dollar from each specialty drink “Power Up Women” frozen margarita toward Finding Freedom through Friendship.
